The assignment: a conference beyond the stage
Stir Trek brings a technology conference and a movie premiere into the same day. Coverage needs to connect the presentations with the audience, volunteers, sponsors, and setting that make this particular conference recognizable.
Stir Trek is one of my favorite events to photograph. Developers, designers, and other people working in technology spend the day moving between presentations at AMC Easton, then stay for the newest Marvel premiere.
The approach: follow the day between sessions
The assignment starts with the scheduled presentations, but much of the day happens in the lobby. Friends reconnect, speakers prepare, volunteers solve problems, and attendees compare notes between sessions. Those interactions give the finished gallery range beyond the stage photographs.
The theater setting also gives Stir Trek its own visual language. Screens light the speakers, rows of red seats frame the audience, and popcorn and movie branding sit beside conference signs and sponsor tables.
The finished library
The finished collection includes speakers, audience reactions, volunteers, sponsor areas, and conversations between sessions. It offers a range of material for a conference recap, speaker recognition, and future event promotion, while keeping the theater setting present throughout.
