The finished candle is only one part of the story.

For this Silas & Alastair session, I photographed the work that happens before the candle reaches a shelf, along with the clean product photographs that give each scent a consistent place in the collection.

From pouring wax to the finished label

The first part of the shoot followed the candle making process. I photographed the wicks being set, wax pouring into amber jars and labels being applied by hand.

Those details make the photographs more useful than a row of finished products alone. They show that someone is actually making these candles and paying attention to each step.

A consistent product collection

The individual product photographs needed to be consistent. Each candle received the same camera position, lighting and relationship between the jar, label and lid. That repetition is intentional. It lets a customer compare the collection without the photography changing from one product to the next.

The labels and candle names bring plenty of personality on their own, so the catalog setup stays simple and lets each one read clearly.

Building the atmosphere around the brand

Silas & Alastair draws from fantasy and tabletop gaming, which gave us a natural direction for the broader photographs. A wood dice box, dice, fabric and warm light created a setting that felt connected to the products without turning the photograph into an elaborate set.

Together, the process photographs, product portraits and styled scene create a small library with several jobs. Silas & Alastair has clear photographs of the candles, while I can show how I approach lighting, consistency and brand details in product work.
